Can someone tell me the best free prog to convert a mpeg2 file to avi or how to rip a dvd to avi.?

ok i've tried this twice now, it creates an avi file approx 1.64 gig in size but when i try to import it into Premier it just says importing files with nothing happening.

any ideas.?

You can download and try Xilisoft video converter. It is a good converter. Find it in google.
