Default When Encoding..

When encoding does it matter if i do something else in background or do i have to leave the video encoding and do not do anything else?
Does this effect the quality and/or makes a/v desync?

Using other applications will take system resources away from the CPU intensive routine of encoding - you'll notice a significant drop in the speed of encoding if you keep on opening and closing apps. If you've got any hardware monitoring software, just watch the heat of the CPU as you start encoding - that baby burns!

I reccomend that you leave your computer whilst encoding for the best results (speed wise). Not sure it would necesarily have an adverse effect on quality, but if you've got a slower PC, chances are the extra resources may render the video editing app "non-responsive". And there's always the temptation to shut down an app that becomes non-responsive/hang.

If I'm merely encoding a short clip for web etc, I might use the PC for simple tasks, but I'd normally use my laptop and leave the PC to do it's business for most encoding.

Just my thoughts
