Default DirectX

I have a completely clean install of WindowsXP on my PC. Does this mean that I do not have the latest DirectX drivers needed to steam video from my Sony Handycam? I will be using firewire and do not wish to install the lousy software 'picture package' which came with it and I think the DirectX is included on it. Where can I get the latest DirectX drivers?

you won't need to update directx drivers just to transfer video.

possibly the software you've been using needs the latest version, but if that's the case, you can download it from microsoft's website.

Failing that, why not just install it manually from the install cd you have?

Thanks I understand now. I'm not very familiar with DirectX or what it does?
