Default The best video editing software for a beginner?

I'm new to video editing, I'm a web designer but a client has asked me to edit some video and put it up on the site... I said sure, I'll look into it... I'm very interested in doing this and I know I can get it down, but I'm not even sure where to begin. It's a different world out there lol.

I'm not going to be editing from a camcorder, I'll be doing it from a dvd, is it wise to get, or do I need a digital capture card like the one(s) mentioned here http://www.videomaker.com/scripts/article.cfm?id=10377

I am seriously considering the purchase of studio 9, but I'm not sure if it's the best choice for my first video editing software. Any suggestions?

Default thanks

Thank you so much..From what I've read today, (while browsing sites) Studio 9 is not the way to go...

I went to the faq section and downloaded the panasonic dv codec but all I got was a read me file, a dll file and another readme file with some orange little screw looking thingy.. lol I know, I'm an airhead but it doesnt have the install file in there?

I got the virtualdub thing, it installed fine...

thanks again

From the FAQ:

Quote:
1) Open and extract the download Panasonic DV codec download. Once unzipped, install the codec by right clicking on the includec .INF file and selecting install. (click OK on any security dialogue in Service Pack 2.
There's also a video to run through the process of converting and installing the software:

No problem, we all started somewhere Take a look at the video to show you exactly what to do (I'm even more patronising in the spoken word )

Default okay, got it to work...

Now, to recap... this virtualdub converts my .vob files into .avi files... so they can be used in video editing software....

From what I've read Pinnacle isnt the best choice for software... I think i'm gonna go with pure motion or ulead.... not ready for adobe quite yet lol but who knows, maybe in the future...
