Default Ve vant zu konvert Vob files zu avi

Okay, if this a really common question which has been answered zillions of times on this forum, then feel free to go straight for the jugular now.
I've tried the "search" facility with no real joy, so...

I want to copy a .vob file from a DVD onto my hard drive then edit it in premiere pro as an avi file. The bit causing problems is converting a vob into an avi.
I have got a Pinnacle break-out box thingy and can play the DVD on a player, connect cables to my pc, save it via Studio 9 as a mpeg, and then render it as an avi file. losing all sorts of data and quality on the way.
Is there a program which takes a vob file and turns it into an avi?

I've found "FlaskMPEG" but their website is sparse and unhelpful, doesn't tell me if the program converts vob to avi or how much it costs.

Forgetting copyright and such like, we'll assume that the DVDs are copyright-free for the purpose of this excercise.

so.....?

No problems. In all honesty, searching the forums for something you want takes practice (especially as the posts aren't sorted by relevance). If you ever need to search the forums, I'd suggest you use google, such as this search phrase:

site:www.videoforums.co.uk "convert to vob"

Cancel that!
I'm not sorry after all!

I've downloaded the demo versions of the programs and...
For some reason, neither VideoRedo or Flaskmpeg will open .vob files from a DVD, so my enquiry remains.

What (reliable) program will convert vob files into .avi files?

TMPGenc Xpress and DVDx 2.3 are both adept at taking (decrpyted) VOB files and converting to AVI.

For decryting files, use the appropriately named "DVD Decrypter".

Sorry, forgot to add that the reason the above apps aren't working is probably due to encrypted VOB files. You'll need to decrypt and copy to your HDD for the best results.

Hmmmmm well... okay some of them might be encrypted

Ah, yes VideoReDo will convert vob files to mpg but... not avi which i prefer because I've got Premiere pro which has problems with the sound from mpg files.
Ho hum, isn't life fun, sorry to be a pain, but just think; if it weren't for twerps like me, you'd be bored.

But thanks for the advice about DVDx 2.3 I'll give it a go.

Now if I could only work out why the sound doesn't play in the timeline...
