Default Dual Layer Burner Help Needed

Greetings,

I bought a Freecom Dual Layer external burner at the week-end only to
discover that my editing software ( Pinnacle Studio 8, Ulead Movie
Factory and Sony Vegas) are not compatible with dual layer burning.
How long before dual layer is more widely used and comes to the DVD-R
format?

Also I burned single layer DVD-R's using the new burner and Ulead
and Pinnacle with no problems but DVD Architect is only detecting
my older internal Pioneer Burner.

Any help would be apprectiated.

It's worth checking the software manufacturers' web sites for updates. Re your other problem with DVD Architect - I know nothing about it, but I've found that older versions of e.g. Nero, Roxio sometimes don't recognise newer drives. Again, it may be worth checking web sites... There may also be an issue with DA only looking for internal drives.

Ian makes a fair point. For example in the case of Ulead's DVD Movie Factory (v3.x) the upgrade patch to support dual layer DVDs can be found here http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf_ftp.htm

Inspired by purejammy's signature, I've changed mine - I think... But how do you get it in blue?

Also: have you priced dual layer DVDs? Start saving... (And yes, I also have a dual layer drive which I have not yet 'exercised')

Place color=blue (in square brackets) at the start of your text, followed by /color (in square brackets) at the end of your text. Although I think Marc allows us to choose our own colours.

I haven't touched the dual layer stuff yet myself. I am waiting for the technology to stabilise and the media costs to come down. (This is really a way of saying "I am skint at the moment")

But hey, if anyone was offering one for the purposes of testing, and it came complete with dual layer coasters (Sorry I meant DVD media) then I could be persuaded to have a go. On the other hand I think Marc, Mike and Alan are more up on this techie stuff than me.

I'll get my coat ...

Thanks pj. And someone very kindly made the change - and now that I knew how to do it, I changed it to a rather fetching green. [color=skybluepink] didn't work, though...
