Converting from DV format to AVI

Dear friends
I received a DV file that I would like to convert to AVI or any other type. I have all codecs necessary but all applications I use (bbMPEG, VirtualDub, TMPGenc, XMPEG etc) do not recognize this DV file, although I have canopus/sony drivers installed. :(
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
