Default Replacement for ROXIO 9

Hello all... my first post here.. so be gentle!! ... I've been editing video for several years using Roxio, up to version 9 now from my SONY DCR TRV 530 videocam via firewire. I find ROXIO's software clunky, slow, generally painful. Particularly vexing to me is the excrutiatingly long encoding time, the flakyness of timeline editing, and the tendency of the program to just freeze up at times. I've run it on two different computers with the same general results. I'm running WINXP Pro SP2 on a DELL Latitude 630 Laptop with an INTEL CORE DUO CPU (T7500) running at 2.2GHz with 3 gig of ram and a 100Gig HDD (40 Gig free) with two external 7200 RPM USB Seagate drives.

I'm looking to replace ROXIO and spotted this review on the web.

Video Editing Software Review 2010 - TopTenREVIEWS

I typically do family type videos, nothing professional. I would like to venture into HD, but still own a SONY standard def video cam for now.

Any thoughts on this listing, or something not shown here?

Thanks all.. Happy Holidays!

Well you seem to have done some homework on this already. Most of the software would be ok the popular ones on this forum are Adobe, Sony, Coral & Pinnacle, but not usually the lower end ones on this list. It's hard to recommend software such as this as it's very much a personal choice. So long as it has the spec you need most of them are pretty similar I think BUT I haven't tried them all. I like Pinnacle for it's ease of use but it can be prone to the same issues you had with Roxio. It's not really easy to recommend any particular one.

Sorry that's not really useful for you.
