Default Trouble capturing video

Basically recently bought a new iMac and final cut pro Express 4. Have just been out to buy the relevant firewire cable for my camera as I want to take on more of the editing side of things as opose to getting a friend to edit my footage. Now I've connected the camera up and put the camera into playback mode but I dont seem to be able to get FCP to recognise it?

Very new to the editing side of things so any help at all would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Nick
