So it's a problem that occurs in capture? Have you tried using a different camcorder to capture the footage. This will isolate the camera from the equation.

thats my next option to isolate, soembody mentioned capture codecs also but i am not sure about this.

The MS DV codec could be shagged. Try fixing the entry in the registry: Start > Run regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\qdv.dll

I did that and the responses was: DllRegister Server in C:\Windows\System32\qdv.dll succeeded
havent got a clue what this means |

It means it's been registered. Now try capturing again.

i tried uploading some new footage but it still has problems, although it looks like it is less combed but more blocky, although I have just saved a frame shot and this looks combed I will attach it for you to see

This is purely interlaced footage - it's what a still would look like from interlaced video. I've attached the image after applying a deinterlace filter.

firstly: Marc, thats a great website. I am going to send the link to all my friends and the students from the filmmaking society that I run as its so comprehensive
I still dont understand though how I am ending up with interlaced footage if i am doing all the right things, well I am obviously going wrong somewhere but i have the project and capture settings correct. I havent yet had the opportunity to try a different camera though.
