Default Imovie 09 export to DVD

New to all this and recording a family wedding at the weekend.

A friend has mentioned to me that Imovie 09 exports to DVD very poorly if you recorded the original footage on a DV tape as opposed to HD. Is this correct?

I'm also wondering if there is any difference using a HD camcorder and recording to DV tape rather than a card- is the quality reduced to DV tape?

Thanks!

This is incorrect. I recently shot an event which required me to use iMovie '09 to capture the footage and the import was very good (I shot on miniDV). I would also suggest that iMovie is not the programme you should be using to create the DVD. Export to .mpg and then use iDVD to create the DVD.
