Default thinking of getting a firewire card...

my laptop doesnt have a firewire port, so im thinking of getting a card. what kind should i get? i definitely want the price range to be under $20 (US), if possible. ive found a few that are about $15 or so. i dont need any editing program that might come with the more expensive ones and i dont need a cable. here are the specs for the one i found:

Two 6-Pin FireWire ports to your PC or Mac notebook
IEEE 1394, IEEE 1394a Compliant
Supports transfer speeds of up to 100, 200, and 400 Mbps
Automatically Uses the Highest Speed the Peripheral Supports
Connect digital camcorders, hard drives, CD-RWs, and other FireWire devices
Hot-pluggable with full Plug-and-Play support
Low power consumption
Power Supply not included

is this acceptable? thanks!

If you've got a DV cam, get the firewire card

ok! what program do you recommend using to capture video? i would like the program to seperate clips for me. i currently use movie maker, but im wondering if that might somehow have lower quality capture. video dub said on their website that it can't detect a firewire connection, or something to that effect.

Studio 8 can do that. Seperate clips and then you can burn a dvd out of it. But you can find out more about other softwares first. I only use Studio 8 and am fairly new in this video editing world.
