Default Adding timer to video

Hi,
I'm new to video editing and am editing a football game. I wish to add a timer (mm:ss) in the top corner for each half of the game and would like help and advice how I can do this. I am using Power Director 7 as the video editing software.

More importantly what is the format of the original footage?
If it is DV-AVI (mini dv tape) then you can do a search for a tiny free utility called DV Timecode.

If you are recording in any MPEG2 variation then you are out of luck. Taped recordings have a continuous timecode running through them so when you turn the cam off time keeps passing so to speak.

On the MPEG2 cams and AVCHD time stops when you stop recording and, worse still, time starts at 0:00:00 every time you re-commence recording.

Thanks for that info. Think it's MPEG2 format. Isn't there anywhere I'd be able to get a video of 00:00 - 45:00 mins and 45:00 - 90:00 mins footage and overlay that on my video?

Sorry, I have no idea. I remember years ago a guy on the VideoStudio forum made a filter that let you overlay a timecode and you could set it how you wanted but I have no idea where it is now ir if it would suit any other editing programs.
