Default Cannot get trimmed a DV-AVI movie in MS Movie Maker

It turns out that my MS Windows Movie Maker (further - MM) saves an untrimmed clip (Save Movie menu) in DV-AVI format, instead of expected trimmed one.
The long story is as follows.
* A ripped DVD (a vob) was converted to a DV-AVI file (on a Mac, not sure which program, should not be relevant).
* It can be loaded into MM.
* It can be resaved again as a DV-AVI by MM
* It can be split in two or more clips, and the tail clip can be saved as a DV-AVI properly.
But the head clip of a split or trimmed/resized clip cannot be saved as intended in the DV-AVI format.
It saves, but so that only the sound track is trimmed, but the video goes all the way to the end of the original 'long' video.
It can be saved into other offered formats by MM, and that would be properly trimmed.
But the DV-AVI does not get trimmed!
Is there any workaround?
PLease help!

One problem you may be hitting is that the original clips were created on a Mac. Although DV-AVI is "supposed" to be a bog standard...well...standard some of the information within the file will be different.
I have seen this problem before and one way to get around it is to convert the mac created DV-AVI's into Windows ones using a free program called Super. Just do a search on it.
What you will be doing is taking a DV-AVI and converting it to a DV-AVI! Silly, I know but the conversion should adjust the originals so that you can edit successfully...I hope!

The above is on the money - you cant edit files from a mac on a pc unless you are in starbucks and even then you have to look smug and slightly lonely -

Dear lancecarr,

Thank you for the sympathy with the problem.

I was 'silly' enough to export a DV-AVI (DV-Pal) from MM even though the source was presumably in the same format, and the output was slightly different in the size from the 'same format' input and, therefore, probably recalculated, but re-loading this export back into the MM did not solve the issue.

I guess I'll go for a more versatile program at this point, but what stuck in my mind is to confirm that MM has this bug indeed, seen by others. Or, rather, to confirm that MM can trim the DV-AVI format at least case by case, can't it?

Kind regards and a happy new year!
