Default ulead,media player, winfast combo

i have a leadtek winfast pvr pci card and ulead video studio7 SE DVD running on xp pro. i used to have ulead video studio 6 and i've been capturing and editing videos a lot already before but now im having problems with mpeg file playback.
windows media player can no longer play files i captured causing an error everytime i open but those same files open in power dvd. i've installed wmp9 already but the problem is the same. i also have adobe premiere 6.5 which is having problems with playback too. i have already uninstalled ulead and adobe temporarily but the problem is still there.

why can't windows media player open files i captured anymore?
what should i do? or maybe how to reinstall windows media player.
