Default problem editing on roxio videowave III

Can anyone help? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I have no problem downloading from the DV cam and editing clips from there. My problem is when I make them into a 'storyline' all the video and audio tools are inactive buttons.

If I select one clip, I can edit. If I select more than one no buttons are active. I've read and re-read the help instructions but can't work out my mistake.

I know Videowave is out of date but it seems easy enough to use for my needs at the moment - except for this problem.

Advice much appreciated

thanks

Simon
