can anyone tell me if nero 7 or 8 is any good for making dvds?

im not that worried about editing the actual footage but would like to make a decent looking 'real' dvd with a proper title page and scene selection page before playing the movie

you know how a real dvd has a title page and you can click on 'play' or 'scene selection' and usually one or two other options.
then if you select scene selection it takes you to the next menu page where you can choose from half a dozen different scenes to start watching from. it usually has a pic of the scene and a title.

im not that concerned about doing too much to the raw footage. just some basic editing.

will nero do what i am looking for?

It's me again. Nero will do what you want as well as Movie Factory, but I prefer MF because it gives you more control over the video and audio compression. Download a trial version and make a video and see how you like it.
