Default how do i turn a dvd into a .wmv file

I have a dvd with some home video footage on it, i need to get that footage onto my comp somehow so that I can edit it. so basically i need to take the video from my dvd and make it into a .wmv file, or i guess any type of video file.

is there any specific type of software that i can buy or download that helps out with this specific issue, it should be relatively simple since its a dvd i made and thus there are no protections on it.

it seems like i had handled this previously (with some difficulty) with some freeware.

I will try that out, i think i have already given that route an attempt and it didnt work out, but ill let you know how it goes.

I ever used nidesoft dvd ripper to convert dvds for my new ipod which worked great for me,it also can convert dvds to wmv,3gp,asf,flv,ogg,mp4,mp3 and other video and audio formats,if you want to have more settings you can try nidesoft dvd ripper platinum,as far as i know they provide a free trial version at their site, you can free download it and try if meet your need or not, best of luck !

As far as you know? It hasn't gone unnoticed that of the three posts you've made on this site, all of them plug your converter in one way or another..... At least be honest.....

ok, i have downloaded the super c, but now i have a problem of finding the best output for my video.
i use a SONY DCR-DVD105E.

would somebody please tell me what bitrate i should put and the best output container coz all i know is the video scale should be around 720:576, 25fps and 4:3 aspect which is what my camcorder record.

i want the same quality as it is in VOB before i could edit it.

the output can be of any video format as long as its not VOB.

before i tried with mpeg-2 out put container because my camcorder record its video in tht format as it is stated in the manual book, but still the quality is not the same. i think i need to choose the corret bitrate. would somebody please help me...

how do u choose a bit rate by the way?
plus which one i should choose from, ff mpeg or MEncoder?

gosh, im a newbie in this convertion thing. please help me...
