Default Windows 2000 Pro vs. Windows XP Pro

I'm currently running 2000 Pro and been having chronic problems with software (Intervideo WinDVD Creator 2) freezes and sluggish performance. Everything else runs smooth. Just wondering in gereral if there is a preferred operating system for video-editing. I received a XP Pro recommendation in an earlier post but didn't know if it was simply personal preference or if there was some facts or known conflicts, or problems with other operating systems. I'm willing to upgrade if its worth my while. Thanks for anyone's input in this matter.

I've got a XP Home Edition Upgrade disc. I see most use XP Pro. Is there any need for Pro for video editing. I thought there were just more administrative tools etc. w/ Pro.

Made the switch. Things seem to run much more smoothly. Thanks again.
