I know this question has been asked 1000 times but I am new to edditing and in school right now. I use adobe premiere pro I need to transfer stuff from vhs to digital I have been looking at the canopus advc55 and the advc110 but being a poor college student I dont want to spend 200 dollars. Any other Ideas I still want it to be good and I want it to last so any help would be great oh and I do want firewire I have found usb just does not cut it

If you have access to a Mini DV camcorder with AV in sockets and DV out, then you can connect a VHS deck to the camcorder and connect the camcorder to the computer using Firewire (DV out). What you have created is an analogue to digital convertor where the analogue signals, both video and audio, are converted to digital inside the camcorder and sent out as digital through DV out. Depending on which model of Mini DV camcorder you use, you can usually find the settings you need to change somewhere in the menu's.
