Default "Grey mist" start to compressed files.

Hello,

Following on from my previous thread...

I can make H.264 and Theora files in VLC by exporting the MovieMaker file to a WMV file and then using this as the source for VLC (but obviously this isn't an optimal process, hence my previous post), but on these files, the start of the video emerges from a grey mist rather than as a 'proper' starting point.

This grey mist effect can be seen in this video:

YouTube - UKULELE & SYNTHESISER - ARE FRIENDS ELECTRIC?

(This video is not my own, but the first few seconds display the error I am getting. The linked video is SFW - it's just some guys performing a synth & ukulele version of "Are Friends Electric?"!)

If anyone can help me in suggesting ways to get rid of this error, I'd be grateful!

Cheers,

Roger.

Default grey mist

Typically that mist is when you try to compress something that has already been compressed. You need to go back to the original video as far as possible and have a "master" from which to make all of your compressions from. I didnt look at the video you have posted, but your describing compression artifacts.

Cheers man. I thought it would be more than likely related to compression of compression! I would like to convert the source file, but VLC wont deal with the AVI files from MM. Gutted.

Thanks again.
