Default Powerpoint Movie

Dear Members,

Has anyone in the group got any deep insight into inserting movies into PP?

Movies editied on Premier 6.5 with latest MPEG encoder on a desktop. XP PP2003 on both desktop & laptop.

When inserting movie into a slide on the laptop the images show up as a plain black screen, but play well in the presentation.

They also start off with a black screen for a second or two.

The black screen is a problem as in the slide sort view it is impossible to see what the movie is.

I would me most grateful for some help.

Many thanks - Peter :(

I've just done a quick test, and for me PowerPoint 2002 displays the first frame of the movie when you insert the video. Are you sure you don't have a few seconds of blank video at the start? You could always chop this off

...the video was a wmv file.

 Thanks Marc. No black at the front of the clip.

Since I have upgraded the MPEG encoder things have gone even worse. Sound files do not get saved as wav and the whole clip will not play once the file is converted to wav......

Any suggestions??

I may have to go back to the old encoder.......!!!!

WMV files do not work well for me. The resolution in PP needs to be low for some reason and the video just becomes unusable.

Thanks again - Peter

re: the sound not being encoded as a WAV, make sure you're creating elemetary streams. Make sure your Audio is set to PCM rather than MPEG layer II.

Thanks again Marc.

I am sure you are right.

Since my last posting I have reverted to the old encoder and everything appears to work.......so far.

Will remember the PCM option for Audio.

Regards - Peter :P
