Default Video Editing issue - unable to transfer to dvd or vcd

Ok guys, just downloaded the full RAD flick which is an .AVI file, HOWEVER, its damn HUGE at 711,140KB in size (so it won't work with a vcd which only hold 700MB) and when I try to render it to DVD it balloons to a more than 5GB, way over the limit of a DVD+R (4.7GB)....what step am I missing??? PLEASE HELP....

Reduce the video bitrate of your MPEG2 file and you'll be able to get it all on one DVD. Alternatively, try making a KVCD if you want to put it on a CD-R: http://www.marcpeters.co.uk/VCD-alternatives.html

You also might want to check the audio format. A lot of AVI to MPEG2 conversion programs don't compress the audio and that can chew up 691 megs per hour of video vs 70 megs or so that 2 channel AC3 uses.

True, but I've been pulled over hot coals before as apparently compressed audio isn't part of the NTSC DVD standard (and hence some players refuse to play).
