What video edit software suits this job?

Greetings, I have a long file with a game long-run and I want to add some pause in witch I insert a image between, also I need to set up how much time they stay in the movie and besides this I would wanted to add some text while the movie is playing something like subtitles, but I prefer to change the text styles and sizes at some events. I wish to ask anybody from here to suggest me a software that can do this because I`m having a project for making those long-runs of games and what I have tried does not suit my needs unfortunately (Windows Movie Maker, Sony Vegas+DVD). I would also want to save it as .avi file with the same format and codec as the source movie that`s also a AVI. I`m telling my apologieses by now if I posted this in the wrong place and I would ask then the admin or the mods to move this into it`s place. Thank-you, >-Andy-
