Default Frame rate reduction

Hi Folks

I'm a complete newcomer to this game and need some advice. I'm not even sure if this is the right forum but ....

I have a WMV video that is 25 frames per second (and over 3Gb in size).

I need to reduce the frame rate dramatically to produce a time-lapse version (probably to about 1 frame per 5 seconds or less).

Can anyone tell me what software can do this ?

Chapman Photography is an unknown quantity at this point
Default

Most can, get the trials of sony vegas, premier pro and see what you like, vegas is easier to use and a bit cheaper in price, but see for your self.

I agree. I think any NLE will do this. For example in Premier Pro to only show one frame in every five seconds you just specify a play speed of (1/125) as a percentage (0.008%). I expect it will be similar in all the others.

I've installed the demo version of Adobe Premier Pro but, whilst viewing the movie at the required speed is easy, I can't find a way to remove the intervening frames and then save the movie.

Any one know how to do this?

Forgive me if it's obvious, but where in Export movie does it allow one to only save certain frames, such as every 1000th?

For the record, the problem has finally been solved using HandyAvi from Webcam Software for time-lapse, video surveillance, astronomy …. This not only allows the required frame reduction but can also be used to generate time-lapse videos.

So basically you're advertising software we don't need, as even free NLEs can do this already...

Also if that is your website, the definitions in the camera tips page are rubbish and misleading.

I hope you never spent money on that s/w when you could have already done it for free with what you had.

As I thought I said before... in Premier Pro.

Add clip to timeline.
Right click on clip in timeline and choose the speed control options.
Set play speed to 0.008% (or whatever give the correct frame rate) and make sure the option is not set to frame blend.
Clip suddenly becomes loads shorter in timeline.
Choose main menu option to export movie

Voila! timelapse movie of your original clip, playing one frame for every five seconds of the original.

You know. This reminds me. Once the rain stops I really should find time to get out and shoot some sky footage for myself for this effect. Seems the sort of thing I should have in my arsenal.

Reading through this thread again I suspect the original poster has simply confused him/herself by using the term "time-lapse" and not realising that all this is, in this instance, is a case of playing the original movie very slowly.
