Default Encoding Video Twice!!

I'm fairly new to video editing and dvd burning. I've been editing my DV video footage (AVI) in a program called Power Director (similar to Pinnacle). The encoder is pretty good quality and alows me a fair degree of control so I usually encode my AVI files with my video editor software. However, once I transfer the encoded files to my DVD burning software (Roxio) to set up the menus, etc. I find that Roxio encodes the files all over again, thus diminishing the quality. Any idea how I can avoid this?

the files have to be encoded to put on a DVD. To avoid a double-compression just render the original files as uncompressed avi's and then load them into the dvd-burning app.

Yes, that's a solution I tried but the problem is that I'm not happy with the dvd burner encoder. It doesn't give me much control over the quality (ie. bitrate, etc.). The video editing encoder is much better.

well, that just has to do with your Roxio software. Get more expensive software, get more powerful options.

Yeah, good point. Do you suggest a good alternative dvd burning software package?

There should be an option to preserve the original MPEG2 if it's DVD compliant - all it will do will convert to VOB.
