problems with nero - new guy needs help please!!!

I have managed to create a vcd using Nero, converting an avi file, but the image is upside down - any suggestions?
(the image plays correctly in media player when using the avi file)
Also - can you convert an avi file with TMPGenc, or do you always lose the sound?
