| |  Capturing from a DVD
I have a DVD with a few projects on, and I'd like to make a showreel using bits of a few films I've made. So basically, I need to capture the video from a standard DVD, moves some bits around, put a music track over the top, and burn it back to a blank DVD in a format that can play in a regular DVD player. But unfortunately, I don't have a proper edit suite yet, just my home computer (it'll get there eventually though). It has XP x64, Nero 6 and that's it at the moment, since I've only just got it working. Is there any chance I can do this in Windows Movie Maker, or will I have to buy something to do it?

Well, you can use virtual dub mod (Open source) to import the file dvd files, (I forgot what what the extension is) You can then save them as AVI movies. You may have to adjust the frame rate a little to get it synced with the audio though... http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/

Etharooni - I dont think the latest version of vdub can read mpeg2s (I havent checked). The old versions do I am sure.
If this is the case then it's worth changing the file extensions from .vob to .avi, this sometimes works with many editors, or try a rpog called 'super c'.

Virtual dub does not read vob files, however virtual dub mod does. vdub mod is just virtual dub that some guy changed a little, so it has extra features.
