Default Imovie and Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0

I have an imac which came with imovie and I have an XP virtual drive on the imac with Adobe PP2.

I can easily capture using imovie and the firewire port but cannot capture on the xp drive because it cannot 'see' the camera connected to the firewire port.

I want to work with PP2 [once I figure it out ]

My question is:

If I use iMovie to capture, what is the preferred export format to get the files, which have an .avi extension in iMovie, into PP2, while maintaining quality.

I can output from iMovie to the shared directory betwween the two systems and then import into PP2.

Thank you
