Default Edius 4.0 vs. Premiere Pro 2.0

Hi guys.

Not quite a professional, but I finished my first full length (1hr 45min) project last year by teaching myself Adobe Premiere, AE and Encore. All this software was of "questionable" nature (I live in asia) and now have budget to get real software. I am struggling because I could buy the Adobe bundle, which I already understand, or try out Canopus NX with Edius 4.0. I would really like some quality advice on which would be the better long term option as I have a few big projects coming up this year. Thanks a lot.

Why re-invent the wheel? I say stick with what you know and save time learning another product. At the end of the day they both edit video.

yeah, that's what I'm thinking but I have heard a lot of people saying that premiere is unstable, especially when it comes to long projects... how true is that and how much should I be worried if at all?

Premiere has a wide user base and it's inevitable that someone will experience problems. I'm not saying that Edius 4.0 is more stable, but it stands to reason that there will be less reports of crashes etc due to less people using the software. On balance, I would say that given

a) you know the software
b) have first hand experience of how the software behaves on your system; and
c) the user baser is larger, meaning getting help is easier

you should stick with Adobe.

Default My Two Cents Worth

Personally, I’m not an Adobe fan, but more so from the stand point of their other products, such as Photoshop and Acrobat, which I don’t like, but I have to go along with the posts on this thread and say “stick with Premiere”, since Adobe has a long established track record, they been in business for sometime and they’re making money (recently purchased Macromedia).

Will Canopus NX be able make the aforementioned claims five years from now?

Again, personally, I like Sony Vegas!

Ok now you have my 2 cents worth.
