Default Audio Cuts out on my New Video Camera

Hi,

I recorderd approx 10 Mini DV Tapes of Holidays etc on a JVC 9500-EK Video Camera. Approx 2 Years ago it packed in and I bought a Basic Canon MV 830i. Recently I have started getting interested in creating DVD's etc.

Problem I have is that the audio playback on my new Camera of the film recorded on the old JVC is "jerky" and cuts out every sec or so. I have tried various video editing programs (Adobe Premier / Sony Vegas and Videostudio +) but all are the same ??? I have also tried adjusting all settings on the new Camera (12 Bit / 16 Bit etc etc) but still no Joy ? Audio playback on film recorded on the new Camera is ok.

I thought about buying a new Camera but I don't want to have the same problems again.

Any help or Input to solve this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
AJ.

What is the picture quality like on the old tapes when you play them on the Canon?

Your old JVC may also have recorded your audio in a different way so that a more upto date camcorder may have problems playing it back. It may have something to do with the speed at which the video tape was passing under the record head(s) or it may be down to a different codec used. In the video part of Mini DV a codec called Microsoft DV AVI II is used so the same could be applied to the audio part and the one of the JVC may have been different to the one on your new Canon, it's just a thought.

Hi, Tahnks for your feedback. What you are saying makes sense to me, Thanks. The burning question I have now is can it be fixed or will I struggle to get a Camera now that will play this audio ?

Also, I can confirm that the quality of the video itself is ok.

Thanks
Ajay.

Colleagues of mine and myself have found this kind of problem before. Recently, friends were trying to capture from a JVC camcorder footage shot on an XL1. Recently I had problems trying to capture from a JVC footage shot on a Sony. Also, I've had problems trying to capture Sony footage on a JVC DV deck. Always, so far, the problems have been resolved by capturing the footage from a deck/camera made by the company on whose equipment the original footage was shot.
In short, try a JVC deck or camera if you can lay your hands on it...

Cheers,
Rich
