Colleagues of mine and myself have found this kind of problem before. Recently, friends were trying to capture from a JVC camcorder footage shot on an XL1. Recently I had problems trying to capture from a JVC footage shot on a Sony. Also, I've had problems trying to capture Sony footage on a JVC DV deck. Always, so far, the problems have been resolved by capturing the footage from a deck/camera made by the company on whose equipment the original footage was shot.
In short, try a JVC deck or camera if you can lay your hands on it...
