Sorry that I don't know the answers to this one but as a word of advice if you are seeking help.

You should quote all s/w used, all versions used, settings chosen and options used to produce your result, including aspect ratios etc etc.

You said...
it cuts off the black mask likes at the top and bottom
could you explain what you mean by this?

An uneligant solution for now: crop the bars from the top and bottom in TMPGenc. The image will become all squished. Set the header info to a 16:9 aspect ratio and on playback it will be streched back out.

I'm a little confused here. The bottom picture, showing the 'tall thin guys' is the result you want, surely?

You have effectively produced an anamorphic video. Any TV/DVD player combination will display this exactly how you want it to.

The format you've produced is exactly what I always strive to produce.

Simply set your DVD player to 'widescreen' mode and you'll get what you want. Set to 'letterbox' mode and you'll get the top of the the two pictures displayed. At least this is what I get.

Unless I'm missing something of course...

My tv and dvd player both set to 16:9 and i tried other options.... when i play a proper dvd bought in the shop it shows with the black bits at the top and bottom which is what i want.

On my other tv i cant even choose 16:9 cos the tv is only 4:3
