Default Any capture software that uses USB

Hi All.

Just registered to find if anybody can solve a really annoying problem.

Difficult to know which forum to post in as it's a combination of things.

My pal invested in a Panasonic VDR-D100 to shoot a family wedding against my advice to spend a little more and it only came with a USB interface. No firewire.

I would love to be able to capture the footage into a Mac or a PC (I have both) but all the software packages including iMovie seem to be compatible with Firewire only.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Regards,

Richard

Hi Richard... welcome to the forums. USB is a dreadful way to transfer video as it cant cope with the sustained data rate required, so firewire is the standard to use. This camera though is a DVD camera? If it is, you'll be better off copying the disc to your hard drive and importing into your editing package that way.

No he didn't. An even better reason why he didn't get a great deal.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes it is one of those Mini DVD cameras and he has used DVD RAM disks so far. To back them up for him I did exactly that and copied them to, both my PC and Mac, in case he did something horrible. I'm a stills photographer so I'm very familiar with backups.

The structure of the disc is like this.

Name of disc: DVD_RTAV
Three files in that folder:
VR_MANGR.BUP
VR_MANGR.IFO
VR_MOVIE.VRO

THe .VRO file is obviously the main data file as it's pretty large.

The structure is not recognised by iMovie at all using Import.

Richard

Try changing the extension to .vob or .avi or .mpg and see if that will import directly or try the same and use one of the many converotr programs to recode it into a dv file and try importing that.
