Default Pictures to video - bad video quality?

Using good quality digital pictures, I used Adobe Premiere 6 to create a slide show and then export as a mov video. The pictures are high resolution but the video comes out as very poor resolution. What am I missing to get better quality video?

On a side note, I would like to post the video on the Web with decent quality for viewing. What is the best procedure for reasonable quality and keeping the video size down?

Thx
Fred
