Default video is not in-sync with the audio

Here's the problem: I was using a video editing program to join a few scenes and came back later to find that the audio was about 5-6 seconds slower than the actual video, making it seem like one of those old, poorly dubbed kung-fu movies. I tried this with another video editing program and the same thing happened. any suggestions as to how i can get the audio fixed?

- btw i used the mpeg layer-3 (mp3) audio format for the videos and .avi for the format.

Convert the audio to WAV first then import into your editing application.

convert the audio to wav and import it? can you explain that in laymen's terms? sorry, its just that I'm new to all this stuff.

btw I'm using a simple video converter/merger for this.

Convert your music file compressed with mp3 (your mp3 file) to an uncompressed file using a freeware convertor. Search google for the term "freeware mp3 to wav" and download a programme such as http://www.dirfile.com/wav_to_mp3_encoder.htm

Then import this rather than the mp3 into your project.

What was the name of the editing programme you used? What did you capture the scenes from, was it from a camcorder or VHS?
