    Default R.I.P. Film Projectors

"The odds are good that the next movie you watch will be displayed by a digital projector. After a reign of more than 100 years, 35mm film projectors are quickly becoming a thing of the past. More than half of projectors in use today are digital. And the world's theater industry will be completely digital in the next four years, according to Texas Instruments, which makes the chips that power many all-digital projectors."

Well, at least Christie was wise enough to see the writing on the wall and re-focused their business model toward digital projectors. The same certainly can't be said for Kodak film who missed the boat and are going under. The latter is a very interesting case since Kodak kinda invented the digital camera.

This thread has reminded me that I have a 35mm Slide projector & white screen - in the attic for the past 2 decades. I assume that equipment is becoming obselete.

I think they can be really useful in video making. You can use it for back projections to make interesting backgrounds.

...and for keeping your bread-rolls warm, eh?

Only snag I find is the fan-noise. Pity.

I'm surprised it's taken this long, to be honest.

Bulky film reels no longer need to be shipped around the earth, now cinemas just need to log onto a server and grab the movie they need
