Well, at least Christie was wise enough to see the writing on the wall and re-focused their business model toward digital projectors. The same certainly can't be said for Kodak film who missed the boat and are going under. The latter is a very interesting case since Kodak kinda invented the digital camera.

This thread has reminded me that I have a 35mm Slide projector & white screen - in the attic for the past 2 decades. I assume that equipment is becoming obselete.

I think they can be really useful in video making. You can use it for back projections to make interesting backgrounds.

Bulky film reels no longer need to be shipped around the earth, now cinemas just need to log onto a server and grab the movie they need
