The registered users has gone down by a couple of hundred because I've deleted all users that hadn't activated their account.

In order to post, you must activate your account by clicking on the link in the welcome email. If you do not supply a valid email address, you will not be able to activate your account.

You should perhaps consider deleting all accounts that have not been active for over 3 months. Spring clean as such.
