questions about HD!!

hi guys im a bit phased by HD at the moment, i got an HD tv, a normal dvd player and im about to buy an HD camera probably the Sony HC-9 when its released to replace the mighty HC-7. well my questions are can you actually burn a good HD looking movie to dvd and watch it on ur dvd player with ur HD tv. i just dont get it what about all the commericial dvd movies on dvd they all look so high quality so does anyone know what i mean? can you record in HD and downscale to typical dvd size 720x576 and have good hd looking quality video or .>???? some 1 please help?
