TDK are very good, and Sony Premium too, and Panasonic DVC... It's best to stick with your camera brand. Use Sony if you have a Sony camcorder, Panasonic for Pana, whatever.
And whatever you do, don't mix tape brands because they use different gels and will wear out your camcorder's heads. Choose one and stick with it.

Cheers Mihai,

So I'll use Sony Premium for a DSR-300.

Any ideas of an online shop to buy in bulk?

You own a dsr-300 and you ask what tape to buy ?!?!? Is that the dsr 300 that is £5000, seems a bit odd dunnit ? Crazy world...

As for tapes, well I dont know about this lubrication thing, wasnt that just a one off that got turned into an urbn myth ? ? ?

Also DV is a digital format so the tape will make absoloutly no difference to the look of the image. None.

Poor tapes 'might' cause more frequent drop outs, but what is a poor tape? They are only really made by proper manufacturers and I would be amazed if any are better than any other.

For the record tho, my expiriences are that it makes no difference at all.

If you worry about tape quality then use a new tape for anything important and avoid ever using the first 10 sec or so. Dont rewind tapes each time you use them, just carry on from where the last session finished. Keep em safe in thier boxes in a box in a bag, avoid magnets (obviously) and replace them after 10 or so runs through.

The only tape prob I have ever had is the reel locking mechanism busting, but that was on a tape that i had used over and over for several times a week for a year....

I agree, I've got about 50 tapes lying around, sony, panasonic, TDK and JVC is what I've got within arms reach, I've used them in my Panasonic and Canon camera's, re-used some of them, rewound them a fair bit too, and I've not had any problems with any of them.

With film the look of the result is very dependant in the stock used, with DV, a digital foramt the type of tape is irrelevant, (assuming it works).

The look is decided in post. Lucky you having that dsr-300 to play with.
