Please note that email addresses are not viewable on these forums and therefore may not be harvested. You will not get SPAM from entering your email address in your profile.

Luke, I entered your email address in google which returned the following site: http://www.btinternet.com/~mark.asha...bookfile1.html - it's likely this was the source of the harvested address and not the forums.

On a general note, internet banks will never send emails. If they need to contact you, this will be done when you log on to the secure website.

yeah, I always get barclays ones, despite the fact I've never had a barclays account. I'm sure it's my own fault for giving my details out to too many third parties, I am not saying it is anything to do with this or any other site, I just know email addresses to get sold by large companies with huge databases.

SO I guess what i'm trying to say is don't worry about it luke, it happens to everyone.

Many of the net searching companies harvest emails as a matter of course, and sell them on - it's also quite easy to do your own harvesting with a d.i.y form of netcrawler, if you have your own server. On average, my combined addresses get at least 4 or 5 scam bank emails every day - HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds TSB, etc.; they tend to come and go. There seemed to be a big number of Halifax ones a couple of months ago, but these have vanished now.

Any email from any "bank" gets deleted - they know my address if the want to contact me. I also check the "properties" of any email which I don't see as being specific to me, or which I think is suspicious; these show up when the given name in the mail, which is what appears on Outlook Express, doesn't tie up with the name of the sender in the properties. Suspicious minded, aren't I . . .

Don't worry about it Luke - if they really lose your information, you'll read about it in the papers!

On average I get over 100 SPAM emails a day.

1) Viagra
2) Rolex Watches
3) Bank phishing
4) Stock Prices
5) Nigerian Wedding Scam
6) Logo design services
7) Software
Gambling
9) Email lists
10) Mortgages

Quite annoying.
