Default post production - distributing digital video across internet

Hi
wasnt sure where to post this, so popped it here for now... (perhaps forum for post production tips, probs, hints etc... don't know if would warrent it though?

Heres my little quandry:

Whats the best way, over the internet, to send big(ish) AVIs or files good enough for broadcast to reach, say a TV company that wants to use finished video work.
Have sent AVI video file to a third party by burning it as a CD data file and posted it snail mail to date.
The files at moment are about 2-3 minutes and are around 250MB as an AVI......
can these be attached to email
can these be sent to my server (held in 'special' folder that I tell the recipient to go to to download)
etc etc

Anyone know best way? ... or range of ways?
(the files must be broadcast quality at other end.

Thanks for time
Stephenn

For online streaming I tend to use a 2-pass variable bitrate at around 600kbps for the video and 128 for the audio. I generally encode in TMPGenc Xpress.

Hi marc
Thanks for idea
Yep I use an mpeg file to downsize file when I broadcast a vid on our web-site.

TV companys ask for copies of these mpeg/wmv videos to show on their TV show... So I need to get the original (big uncompressed file) to the TV companies to collect, then have for their terrestrial broadcast.

I'm trying to find these methods... and where I place the file for pick up, so only they get it... dont want the full versions got by any tom, dick, harry on the net.

Would streaming do this? if so how do I stream one offs for pick up etc.
Thanks
Stephenn

If you have enough bandwidth and web space, you could upload it to a password protected folder on your web server.

Not entirely sure how you do that, but i'm sure someone that runs a web server would be able to tell you

Wouldn't you just do a password protected ZIP file?
