Getting roasted for my view "Why edit video at all"

I've been doing mpeg video for 3 years now.
with next to no editing.

People buy camcorders, to shoot and view video
not to learn more complex software while sitting
in front of a computer.

I'm sure there is the odd sole out there that agrees with me.
Maybe even add a few new points to make my case.

I'm sure you're right. But I am also equally sure that the more adventurous mind will strive to improve, create and expand their footage into something better than they shot originally. It's the same as going through a batch of photographs and chucking some away so the next person sees only the best. That is editing too of course.

A strange debate to prompt on a forum devoted to editing, but you will no doubt be seeing some replies.

Note also that by only shooting some scenes as opposed to others, you are editing by default as well. The role of an editor takes many forms.

My thoughts exactly, Andy. I'm sure it has a place, this non-editing approach, however, attempoting to justify/promote it on a video editing forum (or two) will find people simply assuming it's a troll post.

The only one likely to read the post are video editors so a thread of that ilk will likely just be seen as "fighting words" I'm afraid.

When I don't spend any time editing.
I can just shoot and shoot video. DVD storage being so inexpensive.

I easily shoot 10 times as much video,
as anyone professing to do much editing.

When you shoot that much more,
the "Law of Averages" comes into play.
You will just get more good video by doing it this way.

Less editing = more video

People tend to get good at things, they do lots of.
Be it shooting video, or editing it.

No amount of editing can carry poor video.
Good video doesn't need editing.

I aim for good video and good editing. Each done well in symbiosis is clearly greater than either on thier own. To debate this is futile.
