Testing
Many times in my video explorations I've wondered if what I start with ends up on my TV set. We all know MPEG compression adds distortion, but how and what kind(s) of distortion?
Back in the old days when I tested such things a test pattern was vital. Most test patterns back then were designed for vectorscope (chroma) and linescope(luma) analysis. But who has such test gear today?
I've foung this test pattern useful for PC and TV video testing.. and testing for compression distortion. It uses only 20 colors, has a six step gray scale, six 'pure' colors, and 640/320/213/160/128 line resolution checks.
