Default And The Lucky Winner Is?

Well, I have been very quiet of late due to all that our Church and others around us are doing to help with the Katrina dissaster. However, yesterday turned out to be a day to remember.

Apparently, a magazine card I sent in a while back from AVID has won me the following and I have to share as I know I am now going to have to step up my learning curve substantially and most likely my computer to boot. Get ready for many questions to come.

From Avid Technologies:
Complete Avid Express Pro HD Software Package
Sony's new HVRA1U High Def. Camcorder

OUCH!!!!!

Needless to say I was in total shock and still am as my wife stated last night, what in the heck are you going to do with that.

Now the great news is that the camera will be of great benefit in the long run for our Church use as well as the potential for me to try my skills again. Of course it will take us months if not years to learn what all this can do. The bad news is that the software requirements for a machine to handle this is substantial. Not sure if my machine is even close to being hoss enough. I know for sure I will have to add more memory which is not a big deal. I wonder if I can convince the church to put out what looks like a minimum $ 3,000 for a video editing dedicated machine.

What do any of you know about these two items : Any input welcomed and appreciated. Do I sell the software and keep the camera?

Thanks Mike.

Really curious on the software part right now as this will be in my hands on Monday or Tuesday at latest. Obviously I also have no idea what to do on this. I really do not think I have anything near what is needed for this and I have no idea how good or bad the software is.

Maybe I should start a new thread on the software?

It's all fine and dandy to win it but if you do not know how to use any of it or have the necessary tools in place for the software it looks like a wonderful little box that may have to sit on the shelf for a while till I have the money and resources to proceed.

I see long hours of reading and reading and trying and trying ahead of me.

LukeD:

My dear man, your computer specs are like mine and much more money output is in near future for us both if we are to use this package. :P Please do not get me wrong as I am indeed very pleased and excited as this has never happened to me before but I have to admit it is a little overwhelming for someone who just started video editing a little over a year ago.

Now how do I convice the church to output some money on a dedicated video system. Hmmmmmmm

*having a videomaker orgasm*

An Avid system and a HD camcorder! What a prize!!!
Gosh are you a lucky fellow. People usually learn the skills before they can afford the tools, but in your case, it was the other way around...
I'd be reading manuals and guides if I were you, to make sure I can even turn that camera on when it arrives. If after a week or so you're still not comfy with that cam, could you donate it to me?
Anyway, enjoy your prize! And start saving money for the PC.
