| | i am a film maker
i am a film maker because the book i just read said if i had a camcorder and script i am a film maker and i should get some business cards printed up. i love being a film maker and i hand out my cards to everyone i meet. whilst enjoying the adulation that this brings im always stuck when people ask what have i have done. i cant tell them i did a two minute mess about with my brother and then put music over the top. that kind of thing wont make me a fortune. it needs beefing up a bit i think. but i still love it |

Hi,
My real name is Mark Watson and I live in Bristol UK where I work as a nurse.
I have been making films for 2.5 years and I am totally obsessed. I want to make a living at it now but I am not sure where to start, would try anything except weddings, funerals maybe ?
I love to court controvesy (try zaskar in google, see?) and enjoy sticking my camera where it isnt wanted.
I am just getting into doing proper drama and am currently writing the script for a ten minute comedy short about a coke deal that goes wrong.
Film making wise pros have told me my editing is very good. I made several films from found footage befor I ever got a camera.
I love big shoulder mount cameras and am thinking of moving on from my vx9000e to one of the many sd bargains around at the moment.
This site and forum looks great. It is going to be ace to get 'peer review' for films and hints and tips from others.
Mark.

Weddings 'Filming'* is just about the furthest removed you can get from film-making. You'd hate it. It's documentary filming with no editorial control. There is, of course, a segment of the wedding market devoted to creating a more or less scripted 'production', but more often than not the wedding camera man is considered to point a camera at the day. This couldn't be further from the truth (you have to be in the right place at the right time to get the right shots; you have to quickly assess your surroundings and make judgement calls on how long you can spend on each different aspect of the day - no use faffing around with alter shots when the bride's car arrives.
As a nurse, I'd say you could probably do without a 12+ hour day on your day off...

Guess I should have done this a while ago.
32 (I still can't get to grips with my age!!)
Emigrated to Canada two years ago. I am a part time powered paragliding instructor (at weekends)
Mad about anything that flies but mainly interested in Paragliding.
I have been paragliding for ten years and started filming it two years ago (just before I emigrated).
My ambition is to produce a paragliding documentary.
I also like to unicycle (6ft giraffe), fire juggle, fire breathe, ski, skate, cycle and run, but not all at the same time.
Other hobbies include maintaining my website and dressing up as a gorilla.
...and yes that's me. My brother is running next to me, also wearing a grass skirt.
