Beautiful. It looks and sounds like a work of art, Marc. Like a quality Hollywood opener, you feel something monumental is happening.

Lovely Church, those windows give tons of daylight, and that colour is just so good. Will you use as many dips to black in the final edit?

Thanks for the kind words, but I know I've been let down by my cam work - only practice will improve that (you should have seen my stuff from years ago!)

I think you're right about the dips to black but because of the area most were needed - I know, it's cheating! The church is in East London, right next to a highstreet and the grounds contained about ten tramps, so a lot needed to hit the cutting room floor!

I also got "the gig" on Wednesday, so I couldn't attend the rehearsal and couldn't get inside the church until 30 mins before the wedding. During that time I aslos had to film the guests arriving and make sure I didn't miss the bride.

The moving cam does it for me. Like it's all through the eyes of an unseen observer, it's hard to put a finger on it.

Your optical image stabiliser means the movement is never jerky and there's never any unintended wobble. The handheld aspect appeals to me.

I'm trying to imagine what a crane's steady arcs would have looked like, and whether there'd be enough time to change position.

I used a glidecam There's a few times where I let the glidecam stray a bit too much.

Marc:

Very very nicely done. I loved the choice of music and you really captured the wedding beautifully. Talk about timing to the music. Dips to black were used allot but I think I understand why as you stated. The glide cam really adds to the feel of being there and seeing what all is happening and very fluid movement. Church is just beautiful and it shows.

Well done and I am sure that the wedding party will be very pleased considering the short notice and then the short time to set up and prepare.

Marc:

As you all know I work full time at a Church and one of my responsibilities is running and coordinating the activities in the Church. I was wondering why in the world they only let you in 30 min before hand?. I typically open the church up 2 hours before the wedding starts for the Bride and Bridesmaids to get ready. Then about an hour before wedding, photo shoot begins. 30 minutes really cuts down on your time and anyone else involved in getting things ready and in place. OUCH!!!

Do you all use any audio or video/photo presentations during weddings? I produce picture shows using ProShow Gold (http://www.photodex.com) YES ANOTHER PLUG SORRY! For when the bride is given away by the father we then show on screen for about 3 to 5 minutes with music a montage of the couple growing up and them together with the last shot of their engagement photo. People love this and I am doing quite a few these days with very little effort on my part. Extra money is always nice.

I would guess it would have to depend on the location and what type of church correct? In the older more traditional churches they obviously do not have rear view screens and projection systems about.

Noticed in one of the posts on a different thread that you have to have some type of license to shoot in English Churches? WOW! We do not check anything in regards to this as that is something between the Wedding Party and the Photographer/Videographer. We do ask that the photographer and videographer respect the day and the wedding taking place and not to be moving around all over the stage and sanctuary. We do not even allow flash photography during the ceremony at all. Only after all is done do we allow those types of shots.

Very interesting how we are so different. Is this normal or just certain churches requiring this information? :

The regular video shooters will give you a more informed answer, but in my experience the A/V presentations are normally restricted to the reception! In fact the vast majority of bride and grooms will only attend church on the few occassions the vicar asks them to before the wedding - I'd say the MAJORITY of B&Gs will never step inside a church again after the wedding.

From this you can imagine that church attendence is LOW! I guess wedding must be a great source of income for the churches...

The vicar at the wedding on the weekend seemed shocked when I asked if he had a collection box (I think he thought I wanted to film it!).

Back to the glidecam, I'd say I've come on leaps and bounds since. Watching all the footage made me critically assess where I was going wrong and I've been practicing more since. It's not until your in that pressurised environment that you skills are really exposed!!!

Default Well done

Well done Marc , very good use of the Glidecam , but let me into your secret how the hell do you get to move around the church like that in the service. Most Vicars tell you where you can stand , not to move , if you can or cant have a tripod. I have seen some photographers get a right telling off in front of everybody so I just do as I am told lol , was you in stealth mode
