Whatever you decide, these sort of competitions are great for getting rid of video-frustration.
With amateur and semi-pro videographers there's often a feeling of being all dressed up with nowhere to go. The competition gives you a reason to try something new, push yourself and produce something which others are going to see, not because they've paid for it, but because they want to enjoy themselves. The fact that there's a prize as well is an incentive to pull out all the stops, "I'm making the effort dear, because the winner gets a brand new Rover car(with one or two bits missing) and a free trip to China".
Go for it!

| | 3rd Annual Digital Director Viditing Competition!
I'm currently heavily involved on various commitments, but I've not forgotten the competition. Actually, that;s a blatant lie.
But I have a date in mind and that's MAY. I have a theme in mind, and that's RED. This week I'll re-open the previous competition forums (these are locked) so you can take a look at previous competitions (for those not here for them).
Once again I'll be providing hosting for all the videos, once again I'll see if I can get a tie in with a company and once again voting will be in the form of a poll.
Because of various quibbles in the past re: interpretation of the rules, this year we'll see three categories:
1) interpretation (of the RED theme)
2) technical
3) artistic
Unlike last year, each person will only have ONE vote. The format last year didn't work in my opinion. So we'll have three polls, one for each category with all the videos in each. So you only chose ONE winner for each category. The winner in each category will be the video with most votes, Note: I will not be providing the voting statistics and the overall winner will be the video with the highest aggregate votes over all categories.
This method is both the easiest to manage (I'll delete self-voting), and the simplest to understand. You simply vote for the one you think should win the category. I know people have strong feelings on the voting, but this is the way it's going to be this year. If there is dissention, I will chose the winner myself.

I think that is a really good voting system.
I know it's really early, but do you think we will be able to use copyrighted music this time?
Now, how to interpret the red theme, if only the sea were red, oh well, at least ther's two other categories.

Nope, never understood the game. Watched Man U as a 13 yr old and stuck with soccer since.
re: Mike
As for the voting ... sounds a fair deal to me - not having experienced last years.

Red? Well, I think that's scuppered my chances of entering :( My mind doesn't do 'abstract'. Not at all convinced I'll come up with a workable idea for 'red'.
My best idea so far was some sort fo Schindler's list colour pass but Marc's just put the kaibosh on that idea.
I'll keep thinking though.
