Well I tried to get my hands dirty with my new Canon XM2. So I did a three camera shoot at my daughter's house.
Your task, should you accept it, is to determine what camera was used on each angle in the very short clip below. All I have done is add a monochrome filter to make it a wee bit harder.
There are three angles in the clip 1, 2 and 3. The three cameras are, Canon XM2, Sony TRV33 and a Sony TRV310 (Digital . Match the camera to the angle. Mars Bar to the first correct post. http://purejammy.digital-director.com/vecomp.wmv
PS I know I got the angles and a few other things wrong, but I will fix that next time.

they look pretty similar to me, but it is late, and I've been staring at books all day.
First impressions:
angle 1: Sony TRV310
angle 2: Canon XM2
angle 3: Sony TRV33

To my jaded eyes the sharpness seemed to increase with each shot, so I think its:
1) Sony TRV 310
2) Sony TRV 33
3) Canon XM2

I'd have to agree with tone33.
Mr Jammy the Monochrome man eh? Did you rememebr the contrast adjustment this time?
Also, some shadows (from her glasses) across her face will need sorting in the final shots. Get a couple fo extra lights in there to soften up those shadows!
P.S. Marc asks if she's married yet!

First shot is clearly the worst one, the second and third shots are a lot closer in quality, not much in it, maybe (just to be different), I'd say the XM2 is the second shot.....?

Well done to Tone33 and Alan Mills for getting the answer. Tone33 was also right with sharpness of image being the main clue. Without the monochrome filter the image differences were even more stark.
In actual fact I scrapped the footage because of the image difference between the Digital 8 cam (My pride and joy only 5 short years ago) and the others. Even the TRV33 was only useable by applying some sort of post production filter. So its a re-shoot I'm afraid.
So Tone33 and Alan Mills both win a Mars Bar. On the other hand ... Mr Jammy the Monochrome man eh? Did you rememebr the contrast adjustment this time? |
Mr Mills forfeits his Mars Bar for being cheeky Then again if I don't give him the Mars Bar he might get that fellow with gun (from his comp winning entry) to pay me a visit. I don't know what to do ... HELP!

Oops nearly forgot ... P.S. Marc asks if she's married yet! |
The young lady is engaged to be married. Date yet to be confirmed, but probably summer 2006. She won't even let me film it. Says she doesn't want a balck and white wedding video ...
But hey, if it all falls through I will let Marc know.

Blimey! I got something right - best news for the whole day. Never mind about the Mars bar, it's the taking part that counts! Video editing forums for that feelgood factor!
(Always fancied an XM2. Have you any niggles about the way it handles?)

Wow, you guys ROCK! I could tell the first one was the lowest quality, but there is no way I could tell the difference of the other two. Is there any way you can post the same shot without the effects so I can see the difference and feel a little better?

Your wish is my command
TRV310
TRV33
XM2
Fairly compressed these, for relatively quick dwonload, but the main aspect is that the grain reduces significantly by each shot. Whilst you won't know it the xm2 represents a truer representation of the actual conditions.
