DVI + TFT = lovely and crisp here. And lots of space left on my desk for lots of crap to accumulate.

definitely sounds to me like you were viewing the content in a resolution that was not the TFT's native resolution.

TFTs are lovely and sharp, when set up correctly, but the price and the lack of colour definition in even the best makes them the second best choice, imo.

I am running a 17 inch flat panel on the left, which is for Surfing the net, playing games, what not, then i have a 17 inch CRT on the right which usually has itunes or IMs on it, but when i edit, i move everything that has to do with colors to the right screen because i like the color on the CFT sooo much better than the TFT. TFT in my experiences has made my movies a bit blurry sometimes... but thats my experience, when premiere or photoshop is up, the tools are on the left and the previews are on the right.

When choosing a TFT display ensure you pick one with a pixel response time of around 15 milliseconds. You will pay a bit more for these displays but they should be the only ones you consider. The two I have have a pixel response time of 12ms.

Default Dual monitors

Having invested in a Matrox RTX.100 + Adobe collection, I was beginning to think Premiere Pro was a bit of a pig. One great "improvement" was the preview screens are smaller (?!) and the whole appearance is clutter. Eyestrain after 30 minutes. Now I've stuck two 17" CRTs together, with a GeForce 5700 dual head. Much better - Premiere spreads itself across, and the bigger previews are terrif. No going back now. (Other niggles with Pro 1.5 as well -- I still prefer the simplicity of 6.5).

I've used Photoshop for years, and CRTs are better at displaying subtle differences in hue. (Their bulk is a bloody nuisance though). The excess radiation doesn't seem to bother my eyes any more. I notice Millsy that you use a dual head -- but only one monitor? You can get a decent 17" TFT now for £200 or just under. Very tempting.

Matrox cards + 5700 eh? Same setup as me

You might be right. However, as I said I have a very good 19" CRT running at 1600x1200 (sharp as... well, a very sharp thing!). If I put a TFT next to it then they would both have to run at 1280x1024 right? Just not sure I want to submit my monitor to kiddie resolutions. Would be like buying a Dodge Viper and toodling down to the local shops in it.

Not necessarily. I had two different sized monitors and had them running at different resolutions on the same desktop. A bit weird, but better than a poke in the eye.

Old thread I know, but having moved to dual monitors feel input might help someone. I use two Dell 19 inch CRT's both at 1600x1200. The extra space is great. I have my A priority windows on the monitor directly infront of me and other windows such as media players msn etc in the other. However the best gains to me came with writing pic microchip programs where you have many windws open, I would hate to loose this now, Gains in Liquid edition have also helped although I would probably still cope on one monitor. Desk space here is not too much of a problem, and the CRT's do help heat the room!!

I was suprised at how HOT LCDs got. You could fry an egg on one (but it would probably drip off and get in the way)
