Due to the not infrequent use of Private Messages to sell and distribute illegal copies of software, I've had to moderate messages sent via PMs. Now there's obviously an ethical dilema here, so if you have anything private you want to share with others please chat via email.
I don't want to either lose my hosting or, at the extreme, face criminal charges for copyright theft. Your understanding in the matter is greatly appreciated.

I do have the option of turning off PMs. We'll put it to the vote.

Vote: Turn it off
Monitoring is all a bit nasty

Just one vote realistically means 'switch off'.

Yeah Marc, lose it. If you're considered responsible in any way for what other people may write then that is not fair in my view. Rather than spend time being forced to moderate then just lose the PM functionality of the site.
I guess those who do not publish their email address will not be able to 'chat privately' though.

I should not be allowed anywhere near PCs. Somehow I'd ticked the make cookie secure box. Er, how???!!!
Anyway, after losing the ability to log in, checking the config database and looking for anything I stoooopidly changed, I found the little bugger.

PMs are now disabled. However, your email address is now secure. Click on an email address and see!

I guess I got to this a little late, but I'm cool with the decision on PMs. But: I don't quite understand how we can securely obtain one another's email addresses. Can you elucidate? Ta!

Thanks Marc. I'm obviously losing it, one way and another...
